Welcome to the Husum Yacht and Canoe Club blog!Some of the local folk, after a few sessions of musing over local liquid refreshments, have moved ahead with plans to form our very own Yacht Club. Not that any of us have yachts, or a fancy clubhouse, or docks for that matter. But we all love the water, and we all have something to move ourselves around in the water, be it kayak, canoe, fly fishing float tube, pontoon boat, or, like the guy who lives at the top of Spring Hill Road, a real honest to goodness power boat.
Some of us have owned boats in the past. Some have experience with very large ships in our past. And some got A's in boat design with their Ivory Soap carvings in grade school. So we are forming a yacht club. There is no reason not to.
Check back often as this site is under construction. You can also become fans of the Husum Yacht and Canoe Club on Facebook. We will not, however, get involved in Twitter. That's just too much information.
Anyone who showed up at the initial planning meeting became an officer. Our slate is as follows:
Commodore: Lloyd DeKay
Vice Commodore: Bill Caldwell
Treasurer: Jerry Hess
Secretary: Micki Caldwell
Social Secretary: Lorrie DeKay
Sailing Master: Joel Goodwillie
Other officers will be named as people join our merry band. Our dues are a mere $20 and include a Tshirt, which is being designed as I type.
We have an official Corporate Sponsor, Hooba's, who promises a roof over our heads and providing sustenance as needed, for a fee of course. No charge for grief and aggravation. Our meetings rotate among local establishments depending on season, mealtime and the prevailing winds.
Wind River Cellars is the Official Wine of the Husum Yacht and Canoe Club. Watch for the official label being planned for future bottlings.
Our next meeting will be June 21st at High Noon at Hooba's. Yeah, it's Father's Day, but it was the best fit for those attending yesterday's planning session. Do your best. We will be planning July events, which include participation in the Annual Husum Fourth of July Parade, and in the kayak race at the Nights in White Salmon Art and Wine Fusion. We will also be discussing bylaws (plan on an extra beer or glass of wine for that part), accredidation by a higher level yachting association, and unveiling of the new pennant design. So bring your ideas, your 20 bucks, and your rubber ducky to Hooba's Sunday June 21st.
